In observance of World Breastfeeding Week, the Ga West Municipal Hospital proudly joins the global campaign to highlight the essential role breastfeeding plays in nurturing healthy communities. This year’s celebration is held under the theme: Prioritise Breastfeeding; Create Sustainable Support Systems.
Breastfeeding remains a cornerstone of child survival, nutrition, and development. At Ga West Municipal Hospital, we believe that every child deserves breastmilk, and we are committed to making it possible everywhere.
Why Breastfeeding Matters
Breastfeeding is more than just nourishment—it is a powerful act of love, protection, and sustainability:
- It’s natural, sustainable, and environmentally friendly, making it one of the best starts in life for any child.
- Exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months, followed by continued breastfeeding up to 2 years and beyond, provides critical health benefits for both mother and child.
- Breastfed babies are healthier, and workplaces that support breastfeeding are often more productive and nurturing.
Supporting Mothers at Home and Work
As part of our commitment, Ga West Municipal Hospital is advocating for the creation of breastfeeding corners at all workplaces, especially for working mothers. Supporting lactating mothers with time, space, and privacy to breastfeed or express milk is vital to increasing breastfeeding rates and ensuring healthier babies and happier families.
We encourage employers, policy-makers, and community leaders to come together to:
- Create mother-friendly environments
- Implement policies that protect maternity rights
- Educate families and communities about the long-term benefits of breastfeeding
Call to Action
Let’s work together to build sustainable support systems that prioritize the health of our future generations. Whether you’re a healthcare provider, employer, father, or community member, you have a role to play in making breastfeeding the norm.
