
As part of efforts to promote mental well-being and reduce stigma around mental illness, the Mental Health Unit of Ga West Municipal Hospital is observing Mental Health Awareness Creation Month (Purple Month) throughout May 2025 with a series of impactful activities.
The month-long campaign is aimed at raising awareness, educating the public, and providing direct support on key mental health issues, especially in underserved communities.
Highlights from the Itinerary:
Week 1: Focus on Maternal Mental Health
- 6th May: The campaign kicked off with a session on Maternal Mental Health at the ANC Clinic, targeting expectant and nursing mothers.
- 8th May: A stress and stress management session was also held at the OPD to educate clients on identifying stress triggers and healthy coping strategies.
Week 2: Community Engagement and Mental Health Education
- 12th May: A general health talk was organized on Mental Health, Mental Illness, and the Availability of Rehabilitation Services, held at the General OPD.
- 14th May: Students of Akraman Secondary School benefited from a special outreach on Stress and Stress Management, highlighting youth mental health.
Week 3: Empowering Users and Tackling Substance Abuse
- 21st May: A Service User Forum at the hospital brought together clients and stakeholders to discuss experiences and improve service delivery.
- 23rd May: A session on Substance Abuse was held at Greater Hope Royal Foundation in Sapeiman, focusing on addiction prevention and support services.
Week 4: Targeting Vulnerable Groups
- 26th May: A Psychological Screening for Mothers took place at the Gynae/OPD unit, emphasizing postpartum mental health care.
- 28th May: The month wraps up with a final session on Stress and Stress Management at AMSTEC, Fise.
All activities are facilitated by the dedicated Mental Health Team of Ga West Municipal Hospital, whose commitment continues to bring mental health to the forefront of healthcare in the municipality.
