Blood Donation Exercise at Ga West Municipal Hospital Draws Community Support

On Friday, July 19, 2025, the Ga West Municipal Hospital organized a successful blood donation exercise that brought together members of the community, health workers, and volunteers in a powerful show of solidarity and care. The event, held on the hospital premises, aimed to replenish the hospital’s blood bank and promote the importance of voluntary blood donation.

Health officials at the Ga West Municipal Hospital expressed their appreciation for the strong turnout, noting that the blood drive was timely, especially as hospitals continue to face a shortage of blood for emergency cases, surgeries, and maternal care. Donors included hospital staff, local residents, youth groups, and students from nearby institutions.

The atmosphere during the exercise was both lively and inspiring. Trained medical personnel ensured the process was smooth, safe, and comfortable for all donors. Refreshments were provided for participants after donation, and each donor received a brief health check-up as part of the procedure.

Speaking to some of the donors, many said they were motivated by the opportunity to help save lives. A few were first-time donors, while others had participated in previous exercises and were excited to be part of yet another impactful initiative.

Dr Kwame Asiedu, a medical officer at the hospital, highlighted the importance of regular blood donation. He noted that one unit of blood can save up to three lives and encouraged more Ghanaians to embrace the habit of donating at least twice a year.

The exercise was also used as a platform to educate the public on the benefits of blood donation. Health educators on-site addressed common myths and answered questions from the public. Many attendees left with a better understanding of how safe and essential blood donation is to the health system.

The management of Ga West Municipal Hospital thanked all donors and volunteers who made the event possible. They also called on individuals, churches, corporate bodies, and NGOs to consider partnering with the hospital in future exercises to sustain the effort and save more lives.

As the hospital continues to deliver quality healthcare, activities like this serve as a reminder that community involvement plays a crucial role in building a resilient health system. The success of the July 19 event is proof that when people come together for a good cause, the impact can be truly life changing.
