In a powerful display of community spirit and health advocacy, Ga West Municipal Hospital joined the rest of the world on Friday, April 25, 2025, to commemorate World Malaria Day under the global theme: “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite.”
The day began with a vibrant float through the streets of Amasaman, where healthcare staff, volunteers, and community members raised awareness through chants, placards, and public announcements. The message was clear: malaria is preventable and beatable, but it requires renewed investment, fresh ideas, and passionate community engagement.
Back at the hospital, a community durbar was held, drawing residents, schoolchildren, health professionals, and local leaders. The program featured educational talks on malaria prevention, symptoms, and treatment options, with a special focus on environmental hygiene and the correct use of insecticide-treated nets.
In his keynote address, the Medical Superintendent of Ga West Municipal Hospital emphasized the importance of sustained action:
“This year’s theme reminds us that the fight against malaria isn’t over. We must reinvest in public health, reimagine strategies through innovation, and reignite community participation. Malaria ends with us—each and every one of us.”
The hospital provided free malaria testing, consultation services, and distributed treated mosquito nets to hundreds of attendees. Educational materials in local languages were also handed out to help reinforce key messages in homes and schools.
Engaging activities such as malaria-themed poetry recitals, drama sketches, and quizzes involving local schools added a vibrant, youthful energy to the celebration, highlighting the role of young people in reimagining a malaria-free future.
The event ended with a call to action from the Ga West Municipal Health Directorate, encouraging residents to continue working together to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, seek prompt treatment, and support ongoing malaria prevention efforts.
With renewed passion and unity, Ga West Municipal Hospital has once again shown that the path to a malaria-free Ghana begins with empowered communities and bold health leadership.
